I hope everyone had a Very Happy New Year and are not getting too much of a case of cabin fever. The snow last week was certainly an unwelcomed surprise, but we should all count our blessings that this
winter has been as mild as it has been.
I had the pleasure of attending the Home Association’s New Years Eve Party and I want to compliment Phil
Renna and his committee for doing a great job. The attendance was a bit less
then the prior year, but everyone had a grand time with lots of dancing and fine dining.
Those who attended, will surely agree that we run the best New Years Eve Party in the area.
Each year, the Eleventh District conducts some form of charitable fund raiser.
So, last Friday, the four councils in our district hosted a play by the Broadhollow Theater Company entitled “Ain’t
Retirement Grand”. The four performers did a number of skits and songs
about the joys and challenges of retirement. There were over two hundred tickets
sold and the main hall was full. Approximately 70% of the tickets were sold by
OLPH and I wish to compliment PGK Tom Martin for all his hard work in spearheading the event.
The proceeds from the play, after paying the theater group, will be used for donations which will be designated by
each of the Councils.
On Saturday, January 21st, our Annual Free Throw competition was held.
In spite of the weather and the need to move the venue at the last minute from the Lindenhurst middle school to the high school,
there were over thirty competitors. There were shooters in each age group, with
the exception of the fourteen year old girls group. I want to congratulate the
winners in each of their respective age groups who’s names are listed in this issue of the Tidings. These boys and girls will next compete in the District 11 competition against the winners from the other
three councils in the district, at noon on Saturday February 11th at the Lindenhurst
Middle School. Please, come
down and cheer for our representatives. Bob LaMarca chaired the Council’s
competition and did a terrific job. Thank you Bob.
It has been good to see PGKs Lenny Scicutella and Tom Martin doing
so well after their recent health problems. Several weeks ago, I stopped by East
Neck Nursing Home to visit Joe Archbold, who is recovering from a broken leg. I
am happy to report that Joe, sporting a new beard, is in good spirits and is determined to complete his rehab as quickly as
possible. We all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his return to
the Council.
If
our luck with the weather does not continue, I want to remind all my Brothers to be careful driving, walking and shoveling.
